Fire resistant plasterboard, also known as fire plasterboard or fire board, combines a number of different additives with traditional gypsum cored boards, to enhance its fireproof qualities.
It is suitable to use for dry lining interior walls and ceilings and is particularly useful in parts of the home that require additional fireproofing, such as garages and loft insulation conversions.

Benefits of Fire Resistant Plasterboard
More resistant in the event of fire than traditional plasterboard.
Enhances the safety of a property.
Can help delay the spread of a fire should it occur.
Enhanced stability gives people longer to escape in the event of a fire.
Where can you use fire-resistant plasterboard?
In theory, you could use fire-resistant plasterboard throughout a property to enhance safety in the event of a fire. However, many people will usually only install fire plasterboard in select rooms of the home where fire may be more likely to occur e.g. the kitchen or the loft, for example.
In commercial properties, such as apartment blocks, student accommodations or hospitals, fire plasterboard is much more common. This is especially useful for giving people longer to escape should a fire occur.
What colour is fire-resistant plasterboard?
Generally speaking, fire plasterboards tend to be pink in colour. This is due to the strong pink paper facings that sandwich the insulation board’s core.
Other plasterboards may have some level of fire resistance but we always recommend thoroughly examining the specification of your chosen plasterboard to make sure it’s suitable for your purpose.
Is normal plasterboard fire resistant?
Standard plasterboard should not be used as a substitute for fire-resistant plasterboard as it is not fire-rated. Using standard plasterboard in place of a fireboard not only compromises safety, but could also mean your building fails to meet current UK building regulations.
What types of fire plasterboards are available?
