Benefits of Rockwool
- Sustainable and non-combustible.
- Life-long durability.
- Unique thermal and fire protection properties.
- A trusted insulation supplier used in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings worldwide.

What is Rockwool?
Part of the Rockwool Group, Rockwool Limited is a local organisation based in South Wales, but employing 500 people across the UK. They offer a full range of high-performing and sustainable insulation products for the construction industry.
What is Rockwool made from?
Rockwall takes volcanic rock and transforms it into stone wool. From abundant lava deposits, the rocks are melted in a cupola furnace, like a controlled man-made volcano. The re-melted lava is then spun, given treatment to make it water repellant and bound together in a wool-like fleece.
This stone wool is a very versatile and natural material with lots of benefits that make it ideal for thermal insulation, fire protection, acoustic control and environmental purposes. During the manufacturing process, Rockwool insulation is cut, shaped and combined into many different products for a wide variety of applications.
What is Rockwool used for?
Rockwool can be used for roof insulation, floor insulation, ceiling insulation and internal wall insulation. It can also be used in basements, sheds, garages and chimneys. It can help raise a building’s fire resilience, provide acoustic insulation and reduce heating loss in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Rockwool sound insulation slabs are one of our best sellers and provide high performance across a range of acoustic needs.
What happens if Rockwool gets wet?
Rockwool is moisture-resistant and breathable. This means that water vapour passes through it easily, reducing condensation. If the wool becomes damp or wet, it should be allowed to dry thoroughly and the original performance characteristics will be maintained.
Any bulk water that comes into contact with the insulation will not be absorbed by it but will drain away.
What are Rockwool RWA45 insulation slabs?
Rockwool RWA45 is a robust insulation solution consisting of high-quality resin-bonded slabs in a variety of densities and thicknesses. They offer excellent fire, thermal and acoustic performance and are easy to handle and install. RWA45 offers the highest level of fire resistance and as the slabs are water repellant, moisture build-up, dampness and rot are prevented.
Where can you use Rockwool RWA45?
Rockwool RWA45 can be used across a number of general building applications, including for:
- Acoustic insulation
- Thermal insulation
- Fire resistance
Is Rockwool the same as fiberglass?
No, Rockwool is not the same as fiberglass insulation. While they have some similarities, Rockwool has a higher thermal resistance (R-Value), is more sustainable and has superior sound-deadening properties.
Rockwool is also slightly easier to handle and install as the slabs are firmer. It is water resistant where fiberglass is not and is much more fire resistant than fiberglass too.
