Which products do Marmox offer?
The main product available from Marmox is the variation of Marmox Multi Boards, which come in a range of sizes such as the Marmox Multi Board 4mm. They are an ideal lightweight tile backer option while also being used for waterproofing, dry-lining and providing thermal insulation.
These Marmox boards are high-performance, reinforced insulation boards which are made of waterproof extruded polystyrene. Each side is faced with fibreglass mesh embedded into a cement polymer mortar. They can be applied in wet rooms, loft conversions, shower cubicles, cellars, and as tile backing board and underfloor heating insulation.
What are the Benefits of Marmox products?
- Marmox boards have multiple uses, such as insulating and waterproofing walls, floors and ceilings.
- Extruded polystyrene boards are one of the most effective insulation materials on the market as they offer thermal insulation properties while also preventing wet or damp.
- Save money on energy bills as homes are heated more efficiently, while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Does Marmox protect the home from damp?
Yes, installing Marmox products in your wet room can help ensure that moisture and damp will not leak unexpectedly into other areas of your home. Damp can be a huge problem if it’s not kept in check, and can even affect the structural integrity of your home. Using Marmox multi board, you can waterproof walls and floors in bathrooms and kitchens while also providing a layer of thermal insulation.
How do you install Marmox products?
Marmox boards are extremely lightweight and easy to cut, while they also hold substantially more weight than other wall surfaces. How they are installed will depend on where you are installing them.
Choose the right size to fit your frame, with Marmox recommending 20mm Marmox boards or thicker for a stud wall built at 600 centres, 12.5mm Marmox boards for 400 centres and 10mm Marmox boards for 300 centres. Then, fix the boards to the timber frame using a stainless steel screw and washer at every 300mm.
Solid wall - screw fixed
Cut the Marmox board using a knife or saw and fix the boards to the walls using stainless steel screws and washers at every 300mm.
Solid wall - adhesive
Use a cement-based flexible adhesive over the multi board using a trowel and press the board firmly against the wall.
Floor - adhesive
Apply the adhesive onto the floor using a trowel, then lay the boards onto the adhesive and push down firmly.
Floor - screw fixed
Fix the board to the floor using a stainless steel screw and washer at every 300mm and make sure that the screw beds into the floor by at least 30mm.
Tape any joints with reinforcing tape. Once the boards have been fitted, they can be tiled or plastered immediately.
Does Marmox need priming?
No, Marmox boards are ready to tile and do not need to be primed, as the surface of the boards contains additives to reduce the porosity and stop the possible formation of ettringite salts.
Can Marmox products be decorated over?
Yes, the wet room waterproof insulation boards provide a smooth surface for easy tiling, plastering or other finishes, meaning they can be decorated with a range of finishing materials.
Both sides of the board are also the same meaning it doesn’t matter which way up you put them.
