What is Knauf insulation made of?

Knauf produces insulation products made from Glass and Rock Mineral Wool. 

To reduce the environmental impact of their products, Knauf uses up to 80% recycled content to create glass mineral wool. To create it, molten glass is spun to create fine strands of wool before a binding ingredient is added. The wool is then cured before it is made into insulation slabs and rolls for use in your projects.

Rock mineral wool is created using a similar process, with the difference being it uses basalt and/or dolomite volcanic rock instead.

Where are Knauf products made?

Despite Knauf being based in Germany, the brand has two manufacturing plants in the UK: one in Sittingbourne, Kent and another in North East Lincolnshire. Both of these factories produce the brand’s popular plasterboard product.

Is Knauf insulation waterproof?

Some Knauf products are designed to be water-resistant. For example, DriTherm® Cavity Slab 37 is a water-repellent Glass Mineral Wool slab for use in external full-fill masonry cavity walls. It is BBA certified for use in all exposure zones, including those in very severe areas.

Knauf Vapour Panel plasterboard has a foil back which acts as a barrier to moisture, restricting it from spreading through the plasterboard. If you are working with an area of high moisture, Knauf Moisture Panel is manufactured with additives that are designed to repel water.
