BITUTHENE® is a membrane used to waterproof surfaces such as concrete, masonry and wood. Grace BITUTHENE® is designed to be easily applied as a sheet, making application simple for contractors.
Our range of Grace BITUTHENE® includes plenty of sizing options to suit your project, as well as compatible Grace BITUTHENE® primer to make sure your application lasts.
What is Grace BITUTHENE®?
BITUTHENE® is a waterproof membrane designed to be applied to building surfaces that are likely to withstand extreme temperatures and damp conditions. This makes BITUTHENE® perfect for applying to concrete, wood and masonry surfaces in basements and sub-structures of any kind.
Grace BITUTHENE® is a leading manufacturer of waterproofing membrane systems, meaning their BITUTHENE® liquid membrane and primers are designed to work effectively together to waterproof both home and commercial buildings.
Why is Grace BITUTHENE® the best membrane for waterproofing?
Flexible and highly waterproof, the key benefits of BITUTHENE® are:
- Cold application to substrates at low temperatures
- Can be applied to ‘green’ concrete
- Excellent bond to a substrate from -5°C to above 35°C
- Primer is tolerant to moisture so it can be applied in damp conditions
- Twin seal laps for excellent bond and security
- Cross-laminated film for high tear strength and impact resistance
- Pre-marked overlaps to save application time
- Resistant against methane, carbon dioxide and radon
What is a Grace BITUTHENE® system?
The system refers to there being two key components to applying BITUTHENE® correctly: the primer, and the membrane. The primer makes sure that the surface is ready for the application of BITUTHENE® so that it adheres properly to the substrate and provides a completely waterproof layer of protection. The membrane itself is the BITUTHENE® roll that has waterproofing properties. It’s important that all parts of the BITUTHENE® system are able to withstand and operate at extremely low temperatures so that it remains resistant to damp throughout application and use.
What kind of Grace BITUTHENE® do I need?
Our stock of Grace BITUTHENE® primer and membrane varies in size. This means the first thing you’ll need to consider when choosing a Grace BITUTHENE® product is the size of your project. Make sure you buy primer and membrane to cover and seal the whole surface, or damp will still become an issue. There are BITUTHENE® 8000 and BITUTHENE® 4000 membrane products, and BITUTHENE® B1 and BITUTHENE® S2 primers in our range, so research carefully which you’ll need for your project.
What is the difference between BITUTHENE® 8000 and BITUTHENE® 4000?
BITUTHENE® 4000 is designed to be paired with BITUTHENE® Primer B1 on vertical, sloping and suspended surfaces. The B1 primer is tolerant to moisture and can be used on ‘green’ concrete and other damp surfaces without having to dry them out first.
BITUTHENE® 8000 is designed for use in basements and other sub-structures with vertical and horizontal surfaces. Its properties guard against the effects of damp, water, and even gas penetration. It’s heavier duty than BITUTHENE® 4000 and should be paired with BITUTHENE® S2 primer.
Why is BITUTHENE® trademarked?
GCP Applied Technologies (GCP) invented and trademarked BITUTHENE® and continue to manufacture the product. Sold under the Grace BITUTHENE® name, the membrane itself is still a trademarked product and as such the name always appears in the trademarked format.
