Customer Questions
Are HardieBacker boards fire resistant?
Hardiebacker boards are non-combustible and they meet the European standard for fibre cement - EN 12467 and its reaction to fire, in accordance with EN.
Can I tile directly on to 12mm Hardiebacker?
HardieBacker boards can be tiled on to directly, using a tile adhesive, without the need for a primer.
What is a tile backing board?
A tile backer board like Hardiebacker is primarily used to waterproof areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, and is then tiled onto. It will protect against moisture damage unlike plywood or plasterboard, and can be used on the floor or wall.
I require 30 min fire rated boards for lining boiler housing. How easy does this saw or cut around pipes etc?
For a circular cut - Score the desired hole size, score an x creating a weak point in the centre of the circle, then tap it out with a hammer.
An alternative method is to use a masonry hole saw or a jigsaw fitted with a fibre cement board blade.
Can I render over this?
Cement particle boards are normally fitted on timber frame builds, and then the rendering is normally carried out over the board.   I would advise that the render is kept as thin as possible, probably a maximum of 10mm in thickness.
