Insulation take-up 'encouraging'

12/06/2012
Insulation take-up 'encouraging'Government grants for purchasing insulation fixings have seen a positive level of interest over the last six months, according to Lydia Sharples of thinkinsulation.com.

She was responding to figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change showing that 57 per cent more households had taken up the option of the grant in April 2012 than they had at the start of the year.

Furthermore, 44 per cent more homes had installed cavity insulation, indicating the government's campaign has been successful in raising awareness of the importance of the ongoing Green Deal.

Ms Sharples welcomed the data but warned the coalition not to rest on its laurels over the issue of insulation.

"There is still a huge job to be done as just two per cent of all the solid wall properties in Great Britain have had solid wall insulation installed," she pointed out.

The UK has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.
