The harsh winter weather has highlighted the need for UK homeowners to invest in energy efficiency measures such as insulation, one sector body has stated.According to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), people should aim to prepare for even worse conditions in January and February by installing insulation, which will keep bills low.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the FMB, pointed out that installing just 270mm of insulation in an attic can save up to around £145 a year.
He added: 'If you already have 50mm of insulation and you topped this up to 270mm, the saving would be around £40 per year. Similarly you need to make sure your pipes are well-insulated.'
Recently, an article on the Province stated that there are many simple ways in which homeowners can cut costs, but insulation is one of the most effective as it can help to prevent wasted heat and considerably reduce energy bills.
