Kirklees Council has issued a warning to homeowners in the area about insulation traders. The local authority has received reports that some firms are trading in the Batley area in attempt to encourage residents to buy the material.
However, the council has claimed that people should not consider the offer as both cavity wall and loft insulation is available for free through its major Warm Zone scheme.
The program is offering the material without charge to any suitable homeowners regardless of age or background.
Councillor Molly Watson, cabinet member for environment, said: 'Warm Zone is a fantastic project which is coming to every household in Kirklees.
'Warm Zone assessors carry identification with them at all times and are easy to recognise, wearing red jackets with the Warm Zone logo clearly displayed.'
It was recently revealed that major DIY retailer B&Q is selling rolls of insulation at a cut price of £1.
